Disbelieve at your own peril. Scientists and doctors have long known that many hormones are affected by sleep. Some of these hormones, such as leptin and ghrelin can affect our appetite. Take a case in point. Have you ever experienced a sleepless night and then the next day, no matter what you ate you won’t feel full and satisfied? Well, it is because of these hormones. Ghrelin, stimulates your appetite and makes you hungry whereas Leptin, sends a signal to the brain to tell you that you are full during a meal. So one makes you hungry while the other makes you feel full. So how do these 2 hormones correlate then? Well, lack of sleep will reduce leptin levels, which means that you will still feel hungry after a normal meal which will usually satisfy you. Having not enough sleep also causes ghrelin levels to rise, which means your appetite is stimulated, so you will eat more than you normally do and that spelled trouble if you want to lose fat. By Desmond Guilfoyle Ive always believed that re-dialling a vintage watch is only an option when one has no option, but of course the older they get, and the fact that many manufacturers have run out of dials for vintage watches, means that it will, ultimately, be the only option for corroded or damaged dials. There are numerous dial re-finishing houses around the world, but judging from the redials Ive seen there are some absolute corkers! (to use a local colloquilism) Many problems arise from redialling, such as badly painted minute markers; smudgy and poorly reproduced script; substandard coatings and paint edges; inappropriate and non-authentic colours and finishes and uneven symmetry of the lettering, to name a few. Ive been searching around for examples of good rediallers and they are few and far between. A bad re-dial with inaccurate detailing can have the value of your watch dropping quicker than a souffle put in a refridgerator! It’s fair to say that there are many more slap-dash, incompetent and inferior refinishing houses than there are high quality re-dialers. So, if you chance upon one, treat him like royalty. When you are in contact with a dial refinishing house do your homwwork and establish the quality of the work before you commit. Make sure you ask for examples or high resolution pictures of their work and match them with authentic dials to ascertain how professional their work is. I recommend you adhere to the following procedures when having a dial refinished: Have the dial removed or remove it yourself if you have the skill Take large close-ups of the dial, case and movement - this will become clear below. Make sure you identify your watch amongst the scans you send to a re-dialler as an estimate will only be as accurate as the information you provide. Write out exactly and expressly a set of instructions in respect to what you want done to the dial. Make sure you identify the areas in which you wish special care to be taken. For example, request an exact a replication of the script and the positioning of the script; state expressly that the colour of the dial must be as near to original as possibly. (If you have scans of reference dials or big scans of brochures of your watch include them as examples) Give instructions in respect to the logo and markers - if you want them repolished make sure you state that repolishing is required. Ask the re-dialler to check the dial posts, and if there any dents or damage to the dial. If the dial is corroded beyond recognition, you may have difficulty with some refinishing houses as they may be reluctant to provide you with a dial that indicates the watch is an officially certified Constellation chronometer if you cannot prove it is. This is where the pics of the movement and case, brochures, and pics of reference Constellations may come in handy. You may have to provide a comparative anaysis of your watch against the specifications of a Constellation. For example, pointing to the rotor bridge and train bridge of the movement showing the correct stamping, and comparing the case style and backcase case numbers that show your watch is authentic. If a re-dialler still wont play ball - choose another who will. Ask for a quotation before giving authority to proceed. When you receive your dial back, examine it closely with a loupe to ensure that it resembles as accurately as possible a genuine Constellation dial. Compare it against reference pictures of authentic dials. You’ll never get an 100 percent exact replication of an authentic dial, so the issue here is to get as close as possible - the closer the better and this is the essential difference between a professional re-finishing house and a bodgy operation. Even if you plan to split the bill (hopefully not on the first date) you can still let him be “in charge” of the process. On Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, Linda Green retired after 23 years as a dancer in Jubilee! the longest-running production of its kind in Las Vegas. At 51, Green was the oldest continually working showgirl. A local columnist dubbed her the Cal Ripkin Jr. of showgirls, after baseballs record holder for most consecutive games played. In certain respects, her achievement is more remarkable. In her profession, where a 15-year career is unusual, Green has auditioned ever six months to keep her job. She kept that job despite her competition of 18 and 19-year-olds. Yet, at 510, and 130 lbs. for decades, she is still graceful and stunning. In part, she credits her longevity to good genes, remarking, Im Scandinavian. But thats where genetics ends and Linda Green begins. By Cynthia Cavalenes A revelation came to me at the most unsuspecting time. During one of the most mundane things I do in my structured and routine lifestyle, while reading my redeye on my daily commute home from the city. A seemingly average man sat next to me on the train and asked if this was the train to Lemont. I assured him it was and went back to my business. He was of acceptable appearance in my opinion, and honestly resembled most of my exs, trouble I know, so I continued with my reading and kept my head phones on. Just as I suspected before our stop he struck up a conversation that lead to an invitation of a drink at one of the locals a block from the train station. As we walked he told me his story, he was traveling from Sacramento to Boston to visit his friends and family and on the way back fell into some trouble that lead him to an extended stay in Chicagos roughest neighborhoods, and seediest areas. I was intrigued by his adventure and the after work cocktail turned into dinner. Being that I am grounded in reality, I knew that after this evening I would never see this provocative character again. This never at one time through out the evening struck me as distressing. I enjoyed his company and his opinions on life, his experiences where fascinating. Another unconventional portion of my evening was that I never worried about my appearance or how I conducted myself. I was more myself than I could remember being around any man in my past. It wasnt that I was under the impression that this was purely on the friendship tip, I knew the second he smiled at me on the train that he was interested. It was the fact that I knew this was a Chance meeting of two souls just passing through that freed me from the pressure and pretences of traditional dating. Our time together was brief and enjoyable, and a pleasant memory I will always have of the traveling man who picked me up on my mundane commute home from work on a random Thursday evening in late May. This chance encounter also made me think about dating in it self. Why is their so much pressure and drama involved? Why do we feel we need be and act a certain way to continue seeing some one? Men and woman alike carry on these stressful and tiring facades during the first stages of courtship. Why is that? Eventually our authentic self has to come out, or we just break up with out that revelation and start over. Are we afraid of our true self? Do we feel inadequate and unworthy of being who we really are? Why would we want to attract a man interested in something we are pretending to be? How disappointing is it to find out that the man we adored was simply a representation of his true self? A slick salesman of a company we really didnt want to make any business deals with. Withholding information until a certain amount of time has passed is one thing. You defiantly dont want to share your past relationship scars on the first few dates, and you probably want to leave out most of your annoying secret single behavior until your stocks have matured. So many of us take it to the next level by covering up our true selves or in some cases completely masking our individuality for anothers approval, what is the point? I have learned through experience that the physical flaws are usually the last thing most men are concerned with when the moment of unveiling occurs. For the most part, in my vast experience, men are too wrapped in the moment to be concentrating on any of your problem areas. So generally it is our personalities and mannerisms that we are most avidly concerned with. However, rather thanexperiencing the joy of a clean conscience, wesometimes feel enslaved to legalism and guilt. The problem is not with God’s moral standards but withthe sinful nature of humanity. James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he isdrawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then whenlust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin,when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Therefore one is to walk by means of the Spirit,(which is eternal) and not walk by means of the flesh(which is death). Both are systems that are complete in themselves. Tounderstand one is to also understand the other. If one chooses to walk by the Spirit, then ofnecessity one has to avoid walking in the flesh. To walk in this case means to organize ones lifearound one of these governing principles. For instance, for walking by means of the Spirit, thegoverning principle is the ministry of the Spirit ofGod in ones life. To walk by the flesh is to succumbto the moods and appetites of the flesh. When that is done, the flesh will produce verypredictable habits or works. His purposeis not to intimidate us or trick us into “wrongdecisions”. Instead, He intends to strengthen us, andteach us to depend on His counsel and guidance. John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that he gavehis only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Himshould not perish but have everlasting life.” Because of Christ, we know that obedience to Godincludes trusting in the cross of Christ forsalvation. Those who reject this provision arechoosing eternal death. That’s why it is extremely important that you acceptJesus Christ as your Lord and Savior! Just think, if you accept Jesus as your Lord andSavior, God is so merciful that He will easily forgiveyou of your sins, because Jesus took the punishmentthat we deserved when He was on the cross. That’s what it means when people say “He died for us”.All we have to do is sincerely and meaningfullyconfess our sins to God, repent and ask forforgiveness.
